Ewesley Road Methodist Church

Ewesley Road Church is one of six  Sunderland Methodist Circuit Churches situated in the City on the south side of the River Wear well within the City Boundaries and close to the City Centre. The Church has developed on this site since 1904 responding to the growth of housing in the Chester Road area. The Church aims to be welcoming, caring and inclusive of all,  building on strong traditions of prayer, fellowship, music, mission and social concern. The fellowship is enthusiastic and forward looking and endeavours to build close links with the surrounding community.

Our aims are not only to grow as Christians but, with God's help, and by building on our traditions, we strive to promote a creative, challenging, comforting and imaginative programme safeguarding the well being of all. We aim to develop closer ecumenical relationships between ourselves and others by promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding.

The Sunday morning worship is both traditional and flexible, and includes all ages together with a morning Junior Church and a singing group. The Church is one of the Circuit Centres for Sunday Evening Worship.

The premises are well used throughout the week with a variety of Prayer, Bible Study and Fellowship Groups, a Brotherhood and Sisterhood meeting, a Knit and Natter Club, a Luncheon Club, a Friday morning Toddlers' Group and a Mens' Forum Group,  which meets every 6 weeks approx. The Church also acts as  host to various Community Activities centred around the Building.

We meet for worship every Sunday at the following times:
10:30 am - Morning worship and Junior Church.  A service for all ages, where we come together as a Church family to praise and worship the Lord. This is our main service of the day and provides opportunity for us to discover more about God, and God's purposes.  Children are welcome and we provide a Sunday School. You will find the teaching to be both Bible-based and relevant to your life situation.

6:00 pm - With Heart and Voice.  Evening worship is when we are joined by friends from other Churches. The emphasis here is traditional Methodist worship, good hymn singing and preaching the gospel-all within a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
A word about communion.  We have an 'open table'. This simply means that you are welcome to join with us. If you love the Lord, or want to know him better, there is a place for you.
